Norfolk Southern began this project with a goal of creating a workspace to reflect the shifting company brand, a clean, sustainable, technologically advanced logistics business. The desire to attract and retain top talent and the need to accommodate new and different ways of working spurred the renovation. The new design more accurately expresses the brand and offers the flexibility Norfolk Southern needs to adapt as departments and workflows grow and change.
Key components of the facility design were a conference center, a lobby and event space, and highly technical spaces. From top to bottom, the entire building is designed to promote employee wellness through the use of height-adjustable furniture and ergonomic seating. To ensure all employees had access to natural light, offices were moved to the building interior and the Trivati wall system was used to avoid blocking daylight. turnerboone successfully partnered with IDEA|SPAN to select product solutions that supported Norfolk Southern’s sustainability goals while expressing the culture of a dynamic organization. Work processes were so improved by the consolidation in the Goode building that Norfolk Southern decided to formally move their HQ from Norfolk to Atlanta in 2021.
